Calcific Tendinitis
| < Back to Prolotherapy Article Index |
Calcific tendinitis is a condition in which there is calcium deposits in the tendon. The traditional orthopedic surgeon treatment of this condition is physical therapy and anti-inflammatories. Of course this does nothing to cure the underlying disorder. Calcium is the main alkaline buffer in the body. If the person has calcium deposits all over as evidenced by bone spurs, arthritis, poor circulation, abnormal breast scans (calcium deposits seen), coronary artery disease, then there is a systemic acidosis condition that needs to be treated. In our office we would do blood pH testing. To help raise the blood pH we would put a person on the Hauser Diet and use supplements such as Alkalinizer tabs, Lime Water, Super Food, and Aloe Vera Juice (all available at www.benuts.com)
If it is a local calcium deposit problem then the calcium is being deposited to strengthen a weakened tendon. It is no more complicated then that. The body deposits calcium and bone in area that are injured, stretched, and torn to help strengthen them. So to strengthen the area
so no more calcium needs to be deposited we would recommend Prolotherapy. Prolotherapy is very effective at getting rid of the pain of calcific tendinitis. It is also great at getting rid of the pain of bone spurs and degenerative arthritis (also conditions where the person gets metastatic calcium deposits...calcium depositing in areas it normally does not).
But doctor what about the calcium deposit?
What about it? Everyone has goofy stuff show up on x-ray. The point is treat the person not the x-ray. Can you move your arm? Can you swing a tennis racket? Can you lift weights? If the answers are yes, yes, yes, and more yes...then don't worry about the calcium deposit. For the person whose calcium deposit is really causing a problem then we would recommend Mesotherapy. Mesotherapy is a treatment where substances are injected into the mesoderm to correct underlying physiology. In this instance it would be to remove calcium.
Mesotherapy for Calcifications and Bone Spurs
Traditional medicine currently offers only one method to remove bone spurs: surgery. Bone spurs generally form as the body's response to stabilize a weak structure. Prolotherapy is therefore, successful because it strengthens weakened connective tissues, and relieves the pain of bone spurs. Mesotherapy and Endotherapy (deeper injections with the same solutions) offer non-surgical alternatives to decreasing and eliminating the actual bone spurs, not just the pain of the bone spurs. By using compounds that affect calcium metabolism, such as EDTA, a calcium chelator, and Calcitonin, a calcium hormone, these treatments can successfully remove bone spurs over a period of time.
Athletes commonly experience calcifications in structures such as the biceps and rotator cuff tendons. Mesotherapy and Endotherapy are useful treatments to employ when these structures are painful. These treatments will, over time, help the body rid itself of the abnormal physiology that led to the calcifications, thus, reducing their size and negative effects.
NUTRITIONAL DEFICIENCY WHY YOU DON'T HEAL
The body has tremendous regenerative capabilities but one must never forget the fact that many different factors affect connective tissue healing. Perhaps, the most overlooked factor in healing is nutritional. Generally by the time someone is seen at Caring Medical in Oak Park, Illinois, they have seen ten health care clinicians and often none of them have considered any of the 10 causes as to why you don’t heal. The first factor that needs to be considered is nutritional.
By definition, pain means something is weak or injured, assuming a musculoskeletal cause for the pain. Most people can tell the date and time when their pain started. “I was in a car accident on….I fell down the stairs on….I was playing a lot of golf when…My wife kicked me when…” Hopefully, the last incident doesn’t pertain to anybody. Most people with pain know what started the pain they just want to find out how to end it! The first place to start is to look at what you are putting in your mouth to nourish your body.
In just about every nutritional study on Americans, nutritional deficiencies are found. To grow ligaments, tendons, or for that matter to heal any bodily structure, it is safe to say that the whole gamut of essential nutrients are needed.
This means the spectrum of amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and trace elements that are supposed to be consumed in a healthy diet. Unfortunately the average person in America gouges on fried fatty foods in between the nutrient-deficiency binges of bread and pasta, which are helped down the old windpipe with sugar-ladened soft drinks.
It wouldn’t be a bad idea for the person in chronic pain to get some nutritional testing done to look for nutrient deficiencies. For the person with chronic pain, perhaps the main reason you don’t heal is because you don’t eat right! Too many carbohydrates is the number one reason people are overweight. The more weight you have the stronger your joints and ligaments have to be to support the weight. So weight loss is a part of curing chronic pain. What you don’t know is that one sugar load hampers immune function for four hours! So the person that has a soda every few hours is suppressing their immune system all day. This is the same immune system that heals your connective tissues. If you want to heal, cut out the sugar and take control of your diet.
