What About Calcium Deposits?
Ross Hauser, M.D.
If you have soft tissue like collagen, which has a consistency similar to a rubber band, and calcium with the consistency of concrete, which would be stronger? Calcium of course.
That is why our bones are made out of calcium! So if there is calcium in tissue what does that tell you?
It tells you that the collagen is damaged and the body is trying to strengthen the area or stabilize it.
What is Prolotherapy? A treatment to strengthen collagen and stabilize the joint.
So if you have a bone spur or calcific tendonitis, in my opinion, the best treatment out there to resolve your pain and disability is not surgery but Prolotherapy. Surgery can remove the calcium deposit but it doesn’t resolve the reason the calcium is in there in the first place. Prolotherapy by removing the reason the calcium is in there, resolves the pain. Over time the body can resorb the calcium if it is no longer needed. Typically for bone spurs and calcific tendonitis a person needs between four and eight Prolotherapy treatments.
